Early Years And Education

Louis Pasteur was born on December 27, 1822, in Dole, France. Pasteur was educated at the École Normale in Paris and the Royal College of Besançon. He was born and raised in the town of Arbois. Before being named the professor of chemistry and dean of the scientific faculty at the University of Lille in 1854, he spent a number of years conducting research and teaching at several institutions.

French Chemist Pasteur started researching issues with the production of alcoholic beverages in Lille. His germ theory, which showed that microorganisms such as bacteria were the cause of sour milk, wine, and beer, inspired him to create pasteurization—a boiling and cooling procedure that gets rid of bacteria from liquid.

Later, Pasteur turned his attention to the silk sector and demonstrated that germs were the cause of an unidentified sickness that attacked healthy silkworm eggs. He created a way to get rid of pollution and quickly extended his approach to immunizations against illnesses including smallpox, cholera, anthrax, and tuberculosis.

Microbiologist Pasteur vaccinated a nine-year-old boy named Joseph Meister in 1885, who had been bitten by a rabid dog, with his vaccine for rabies, earning him notoriety around the world. In order to extend his research, he started a fund-raising effort that led to the establishment of the Pasteur Institute in Paris in 1888.

Personal Life

In 1849, Pasteur wed Marie Laurent, and the two of them had five kids. His commitment to his family and his scholarly endeavors was evident in his personal life.

Louis Pasteur died on September 28, 1895, in Marnes-la-Coquette, France. He was laid to rest at the crypt of the Pasteur Institute.
